Silent Shore Selections: Alex Wright (Podcast+Interview)
We are happy to present the second edition of our monthly podcast + interview “Silent Shore Selections” mixed by our own artists. Our second guest: English revelation Alex Wright. We have interviewed him and this is what he told us.
01. What is your definition of Trance?
To me, Trance music is a form of electronic dance music which has plenty of space, atmosphere, and emotional melodies.
02. Which Trance artists inspired you to start producing?
I was originally producing music before I got solely into Trance music but during 2007 I started to get more into ATB, Barthezz, Binary Finary, Chicane, Darude, Dave Pearce, Paul Van Dyk, Robert Miles (R.I.P.), Underworld, and many others.
03. How do you remember the moment that Armin van Buuren played your track “Galactica” on ASOT?
When Armin van Buuren supported Galactica, it was the first time I had made it on to an episode of A State Of Trance so this was a big deal for me and a total surprise! I remember being sat in my studio on a Thursday evening when my Twitter app started going nuts on my phone, and I was really over the moon as I had accomplished one of my big goals at the time.
04. Are there any artists you would like to collaborate with, and if so, why?
In my dream world I would love to work with many producers on the Anjunabeats label as they all have such a great sound and style. Above & Beyond are a powerhouse team along with Andrew Bayer who is just a creative and technical genius. But realistically I would love to collaborate with Daniel Kandi and Suncatcher as they were big influences to me early on, I believe our sounds would compliment each other well and they are both involved with Enhanced Music so who knows? Maybe!
05. Can you give us a preview of some of your plans for this year? What’s next for Alex Wright?
This year you can expect more original music from me on Black Hole Recordings sublabels, one of them being a collaboration with a well-known Trance producer who has played at Luminosity Beach Festival! Speaking of gigs, I’ll be playing at the first Official Cream Pre Party at Tropi Bar in San Antonio, Ibiza on Thursday 8th June and also at Shindigerz later on in the summer which is a small event running in Leicester, England at The Rack And Roll (aka Leicester Square) who focus on harder edged Trance music at higher tempos. Releasing quality singles on prolific labels is a prority for me this year.
